Prayer Stones

Picture
HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN PRAYER STONES:

Gather five stones. On each, write one of the following:

I love you
Sorry
Please
Help
Thank you

It’s really helpful to have something tactile you can hold as you pray, but you can write these words on scraps of paper or some other objects if you don’t have stones.

Sometimes, we don’t know what to say when we talk to God in prayer. These stones will help you.

When you pray, you can say, “I love you, God.” Remember the things that amazed you in God’s creation today. Let God know what made you say, “Wow!”

You can also say, “I’m sorry.” We all do things we regret, or that hurt others. God knows that and helps us to learn from all the things we do. When we say, “I’m sorry,” God forgives us and offers us a new start.

When you pray, you can ask God for anything! God will not always give you exactly what you ask for, but when we pray “Please” we can be honest with God about what we want. “Please” prayers are personal; they speak from your heart to the heart of God about what you long for in your life.

“Help” prayers name the concerns that are greater than ourselves. When we pray these prayers, we show compassion for others who are hurting. God desires a world full of justice and healing for everyone, so nothing is too big to pray for. Sometimes, God answers these prayers by showing us how we can help others, so listen with your heart for God’s invitation.

We have so many reasons to pray “Thank you!” You can pray this prayer before a good meal, or whenever you remember something excellent that happened. Let God know what makes you thankful.

Hold each of these stones and say a prayer, either quietly or out loud.

God loves you and listens to all your prayers!
