A Night to Remember: ArtChoral fills St. John's with Music and Spirit

As part of Musique Royale’s 40th Summer Festival, St. John’s was truly honoured to welcome the acclaimed Quebec-based ensemble ArtChoral into our historic sanctuary on July 1st, Canada Day. It was an unforgettable night, one that filled our hearts, our church, and our spirits.

Titled Se l’aura spira (If the air breathed), the concert drew its name from a luminous baroque song by Girolamo Frescobaldi. Inspired by the elements – air, water, fire, earth – the repertoire served as a powerful reminder of how deeply music can connect us to the world around us and to each other. From the ancient tones of the medieval period to the rich tapestries of baroque masters like J.S. Bach, Monteverdi, John Dowland, and Purcell (and even a few delightful contemporary surprises) ArtChoral transported us across centuries with grace and brilliance.

A full house gathered to experience the magic and spilled into the churchyard for a Lennon / McCartney encore. All were touched by the ensemble’s talent and the richness of the evening. We are deeply grateful to Musique Royale for including St. John’s as a host venue during their milestone 40th season, and especially thankful to ArtChoral for bringing such artistry and passion to our community.
