          Leader: Let us pray.
                       Creator, we give you thanks for all you are and all you bring to us for our visit within
          your creation. In Jesus, you place the Gospel in the Centre of this Sacred Circle through which
          all of creation is related. You show us the way to live a generous and compassionate life. Give us

          journeying together in partnership, may be strengthened and guided to help one another to grow
          into the full stature of Christ, who is our light and our life. Amen.

The Proclamation of the Word

     First Reading: 1 Kings 19:1-4, 8-15a, read by Kimberly Matheson
          At the conclusion of the passage, the reader says,
                      The word of the Lord.
          People: Thanks be to God.

     Psalm 42 & 43, read responsively
         As the deer longs for the water-brooks,
         so longs my soul for you, O God.
         My soul is athirst for God, athirst for the living God;
         when shall I come to appear before the presence of God?
         My tears have been my food day and night,
         while all day long they say to me, “Where now is your God?”
         I pour out my soul when I think on these things:
         how I went with the multitude
         and led them into the house of God,
         with the voice of praise and thanksgiving,
         among those who keep holy-day.
         Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul,
         and why are you so disquieted within me?
         Put your trust in God; for I will yet give thanks to the Holy One
         who is the help of my countenance and my God.
         My soul is heavy within me;
         therefore I will remember you from the land of Jordan,
         and from the peak of Mizar among the heights of Hermon.
         One deep calls to another in the noise of your cataracts;
         all your rapids and floods have gone over me.
         The Lord grants loving-kindness in the daytime;
         in the night season a song of God is with me,
         a prayer to the God of my life.
         I will say to the God of my strength,
         “Why have you forgotten me
         and why do I go so heavily while the enemy oppresses me?”
         While my bones are being broken,
         my enemies mock me to my face;
         all day long they mock me and say to me,
         “Where now is your God?”
         Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul,
         and why are you so disquieted within me?
         Put your trust in God; for I will yet give thanks to the Holy One
         who is the help of my countenance and my God.
         Give judgement for me, O God,
         and defend my cause against an ungodly people;
         deliver me from the deceitful and the wicked.
         For you are the God of my strength;
         why have you put me from you?
         And why do I go so heavily while the enemy oppresses me?
         Send out your light and your truth, that they may lead me,
         and bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling;
         that I may go to the altar of God, to the God of my joy and gladness;
         and on the harp I will give thanks to you, O God my God.
         Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul,
         and why are you so disquieted within me?
         Put your trust in God; for I will yet give thanks to the Holy One,
         who is the help of my countenance, and my God.
            Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
            as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

     Second Reading: Galatians 3:23-29, read by John Whidden
          At the conclusion of the passage, the reader says,
                      The word of the Lord.
          People: Thanks be to God.

     Gradual Hymn: #37 (Mission Praise) As the Deer

  • · Province of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan
  • All who are in need of God’s healing grace: Connie, Heidi, Ann Watson, Kathleen, Roger Harris, Vange, Kathy, Willie, Annalee, Bill Pearman, Gerry, Bob Best, Jean, Pam Finlay, Audrey, Danylo Dzwonyk, Tom Fitches, Steve, Nate Bradley, Douglas Parker, Peter, Sharon, Mark Fletcher, Jim O'Neill, Mary McMillian, Don, Justine, Jeff Harbin, Cathie & Rick Adams.
  • All whose memory we cherish and whose presence we miss
  • A prayer for fathers, written by the Rev. Chuck Currie:
    We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives.
    Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while others fail.
    We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed.
    This Father's Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways--both big and small--they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond reach.
    So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches and the women of our families.
    For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You.
    In Your Holy name, O God, we pray. Amen.
