Christmas pageant 2021!

Another year of COVID-19 restrictions and another virtual Christmas Pageant! Following on the heels of the hugely successful “ZOOMing to Bethlehem” of 2020, the organisers of the Christmas pageant were again tasked with creating a virtual performance of the pageant for 2021.

Inspired by a production out of St Paul’s Church in Auckland, New Zealand, Jim Fyfe and his trusty bend-but-never-break theatre troupe created a delightfully charming pageant full of superb acting, poignant scenes, slapstick humour, local colour, and deep message.
The actors plied their trade in COVID-safe conditions, wearing masks as necessary and filming out-of-doors as much as possible, in less than ideal conditions. Highlights included Mary experiencing any number of fainting spells, a star that certainly took the path less trodden, a collection of animals in the stable that included multiple sheep, donkeys and two camels, two magi who were up to the task of three, two innkeepers (kind innkeeper in stark contrast to grumpy innkeeper) and a long-suffering donkey that carried Mary through damp and cold fields.

Many thanks to the wonderful kids who made this happen, the support staff (their moms!) and the production team of director, camera operators and editor for making the 2021 “Christmas Story” pageant another joyful and memorable event in the life of St John’s.
